IRON NEST Beginner Guide: Coordinates, Measurement & First Firing Solutions
Read the coordinates, measure the grid distance, pick your shell, and let the calculator turn range into a low or high angle solution.
This guide is original EratoGame content and is not an official IRON NEST manual. IRON NEST is a dieselpunk heavy-artillery game: most missions hand you target coordinates and expect you to turn them into a firing solution.
Read the coordinates first
Missions arrive as grid coordinates (X, Y) for the target. Before touching the gun, confirm your own gun position and the target position on the tactical map โ firing at the wrong cell wastes shells and strains the hydraulics for nothing.
Measure, then solve
- Find the grid distance between gun and target (ฮx and ฮy, then the diagonal).
- Apply the map scale to convert grid units into meters if the game asks for meters.
- Estimate the bearing from your gun position to the target so you traverse the turret the right way first.
- Pick a shell appropriate for the target: HE for soft or area targets, AP for hardened ones, smoke for screening or marking.
- Run the Firing Solution Calculator with the range and your shellโs observed muzzle velocity to get low and high elevation angles.
Low angle vs high angle
The same range can be reached with two trajectories. Low angle is flat and fast โ good for direct fire. High angle lobs the shell over obstacles and hills but takes longer in flight, which matters for moving targets.
Watch the hydraulics
Straining the hydraulics is part of the game: sustained bombardment on a fixed sector is fine, but constant re-aiming burns wear. Plan a bracket, fire in small groups, and re-measure only when the mission demands it.
Verify with one shot
Calculator results are planning estimates โ the game simulates its own artillery physics. Fire one ranging shot, read the splash, and correct the solution before committing a full volley.
